Meet the team: Sanja Capan, People Partner Adriatic, Bulgaria, North Macedonia

Think you know Avon? Think again. We’ve been doing beauty differently for 135 years. From the scientists who mastermind industry-leading innovation in our labs, to the distribution teams around the world who make sure the lipstick is in the box and arrives safely; everyone in the team plays an integral role in supporting our global network of Beauty Advisers and transforming women’s lives through beauty.

 

Tell us about your career journey so far.

 

Since I was in University I knew that I wanted to work in HR. With good faith and a little luck, I started my career journey as a recruiter and a few years later had the chance to try myself as an HR Generalist. In 2013 I joined Avon as People Partner for BCS countries (Bosnia, Croatia and Slovenia)  and later took responsibilities for whole Adriatic.

My newest challenge and pleasure is to be part of Bulgaria and Macedonia markets as well.

From the very beginning of my career I'm used to an international and multicultural environment and cross-country teamwork.

 

 

What do you do as a People Partner at Avon?

 

My role as a People Partner is to work closely with the management team to foster and nurture talents, development and a culture of collaboration as well as develop people solutions to achieve the organizations’ objective. Now more than ever the engagement, motivation and well-being of all our associates is a top priority!

  

 

What is the most rewarding part in your work at Avon?

 

Definitely the people! The possibility to partner People in their career journeys, to help them overcome challenges, see them grow and develop. To see them do purposeful work and being an inspiration to other colleagues. It’s highly satisfying to see our associates work as ONE team, a team that trusts each other, and achieves results while having fun!

 


What is the most important career lesson you have learnt?

 

Nobody is perfect. Like it or not, making mistakes is an essential part of the process. Failure is never the end, it's the opportunity to do better next time. Be strong and brave enough to try again, apply the learnings and you will enjoy the outcome! Keep your mindset positive because after all we are not saving lives, we are selling lipsticks, although very nice lipsticks 😊

 

What would you advise young people looking for a career in HR?

 

There are a few things I have learned on the go that I would advise young people to have in mind from the very beginning.

  1. Understand the business! Don’t be focused only on HR operations, but in order to be a true business partner you need to understand what employees at all levels are doing on a daily basis and the challenges they are facing. 
  2. Receiving feedback is a gift because feedback allows you to grow – no matter how hard it might be to take it.
  3. Together is always better - succeeding as a team is far more important than individual success.
  4. Don’t burn any bridges.
  5. And last but for me personally one of the most important  - always stay true to your values!
